Fan drives can rotate backwards when they are turned off, generally by reason of air movement across the fan blades. Draftguard® anti-rotation device secures the drive from spinning backwards during maintenance

The Gates Belt Installation + Rotation Device (BIRD™) minimises finger and hand injuries due to hands getting caught in pinch points during routine installation and maintenance. While a drive is shut down and locked out, the BIRD™ safely facilitates a rotational inspection of a drive.
Prior to the launch of the BIRD™, to inspect or install a drive, personnel would pull on the belt or grab the edges of the pulley or sprocket to turn the drive. Regardless of the care taken, this procedure is inherently dangerous – a split second can lead to a hand or finger pulled into a pinch point.

Worn sheaves will reduce belt life. If the grooves are worn, the belt will shift. Belts will slip and burn out, and if the sidewalls of the sheave groove are dished, as indicated below image, the bottom shoulder of the sheave will wear the bottom corner of the belt.

A fast and accurate method to measure misalignment is offered by Gates’ unique laser alignment device, LASER AT-1. Mounted in a few seconds, the laser line projected onto the targets allows you to quickly ascertain and correct misalignment. It identifies parallel as well as angular misalignment between the pulleys and is suitable for pulley diameters of 60mm and larger. It can be used on both horizontally and vertically mounted machines.
